Honolulu Hostels - Seaside Hawaiian Hostel
Seaside Hostel

Seaside Hostel provides both private and dormitory-style rooms. Overnight parking is located nearby as are surfboard moped and other rentals. They are listed in the Moon Handbooks Hawaii and appeared on Globe Trekker. There is a common kitchen available for use by all guests at the hostel, as well as a common area with 2 computers, which are available to guests.

The reception desk is open 24 hours a day for check in. The facilities are kept clean and in reasonably good condition. They are located near the center of Waikiki and close to the Ala Wai canal which is a favorite Waikiki jogging spot, for those who want to keep fit on their holiday. Their enclosed courtyard with native foliage provides a quiet area, where guests can mingle and enjoy board games, the free paperback library or watch DVD movies or cable television.

Comments: Great location with loads of restaurants, bars and supermarkets and a 5-10 minute walk from beach.Clean rooms and bathrooms, but private rooms are part of the dorm rooms, so you don't necessarily have the quietness that you may expect having booked a private room.

Comments: The staff are very friendly and the location is great. The hostel is located near a gun club, and a motorbike rental store so bring your earplugs.

Comments: Fabulous place! All of the staff are very helpful, and patiently answer questions that I'm sure they get many times day after day. They're also great about enforcing quiet hours, which is nice for us early sleepers. The hostel has a mellow atmosphere rather than a rowdy one, and the guests are very respectful of each other

Comments: Really nice hostel. Met a lot of international friendly people, very clean, felt very safe, walking distance from the beach, bus stops, and all the nightlife, was able to stay out as late as we wanted, free breakfast, and just good service. The people who worked there were very nice and extremely helpful. Thanks guys!!! :)

Comments: The people, the location, and the character of the place make this an incredible experience, to say nothing of the price in downtown Waikiki! Clean, fairly quiet, I love this place

Comments: Mark, Johnny and all the staff were great! Just tell them your needs and they do their best to take care of you. Kids are also welcome here. We had a private room with a shared bathroom. Our room was clean and bright with a really comfortable bed.

Comments: I would recommend this hostel to anyone. The people who run it are amazing! They really care and try to make everyone feel special, especially Johnny and Mark. My diet is vegan and Johnny always tried to make sure there was something there for me at all of the special meals they have for their guests.

Comments: This is my 4th trip to Hawaii and i've stayed at all of the Hostels in Waikiki and this one is by the worst. Despite the fact that it's centrally located, it has the dubious distinction of being surrounded by 3 rundown gay bars and all the trimmings that come with it including the horrifyingly ugly transvestite hookers that are lurking around as you come out of the hostel driveway onto waikiki.

Comments: DON'T STAY HERE. Hotel rooms are cheaper. The 'private room' was over a carpark, we had to use ear plugs just to be able to sleep..given clubs and pubs surround. The staff were poor, one guy even sleazed on to my partner and I saying, 'he nevers sleeps with the customers but we would be the first'. Had to wait 7 hours to get to our room, as it was not ready, did not have our booking, when we tried to break it they wanted to charge us $120 US. Dodge very dodge.

Comments: Do not stay at this hostel!!! If you want a cheap stay, try the Beachside or the Polynesian . The Seaside Hawaiian Hostel is disgusting: run down facilities, some of the rooms smell like urine, lights and power outlets don't work, the showers are stained and never cleaned and there are huge cockroaches all over the common area and kitchen which will fly at you (happened to me!). And if that's not bad enough, the staff are terrible. Do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere.

Comments: Loved this hostel but not at first! On first arrival I was made to wait until 4pm to check in - I got there at 10am and the room was not cleaned yet, then reception closes between 12-4pm. Annoying since I'd been travelling for 24 hours already. Next I was disappointed to find my 'private' room was actually a room with a door into a 6 person dorm, with whom I shared the bathroom. Hmm. Also my first impression was the whole place was pretty run down and grotty. Overnight the noise from the neighbouring car park was almost unbearable - reversing lorries, bikes revving etc. I know its a city, but this was pretty bad and the windows in the hostel are slats and do not block noise at all so I felt I was in the car park most nights. However despite those things I found this place to be really great, chilled, laid back and I met loads of nice people while there. In fact I enjoyed this hostel more than any other I've been in on my last few months travelling! The place is apparently being renovated room by room so things should be better in time. And they do enforce the quiet hours after 11pm. Just try to get a room away from the car park side! :)

Comments: Don't ever check in with the asian girl. She stole $50 from me. Also, it is really ugly and the service is horrible. Infact, just don't waste your time. Don't stay there.
