The Waikiki Aquarium opened on 19th March 1904 (then known as the Honolulu Aquarium), with 35 tanks and 400 marine organisms. It is the third oldest aquarium in the United States, and was considered state-of-the-art at that time. Since then it has grown. Visitors can now see over 2500 animals representing more than 420 species of marine life from the tropical Pacific and Hawaii.
The Waikiki Aquarium, offers a wide a variety of fun and educational things to do, and see for children and adults alike. Learn about; coral growth, Native Hawaiian Monk Seals, and five different types of Hawaiian reef and shore environments. Their Educational Department offers day and night reef walks, Pacific diving/snorkeling trips and overnight Aquarium adventures featuring sharks, sea jellies and a special evening with the Director
Open daily 9:00 am to 4:30 pm; last guests exit at 5 pm. Closed Christmas Day; special hours on Thanksgiving and New Year's days. Admission rates are $9 for Adults $6 for local residents, active duty military with ID, students with ID and senior citizens; $4 for Youths (13-17), and persons with disabilities; $2 for Juniors (5-12). Children 4 and under are free.
