The most popular hostel on the North Shore of Oahu
Backpackers hostel on the North Shore offers very laid back accommodations for the budget traveler. This is a great place. Plantation Village is 9 plantation style cabins just down the street from the Main House (200 meters) located across from the other end of Pupukea Beach Marine Sanctuary (Three Tables Beach). The cabins are nestled among hibiscus, borganvilla, bananas and Papaya on over an acre of lush tropical landscape. There are BBQ areas and picnic tables and laundry facilities. All cabins have fully equipped kitchens and baths and cable TV
It's location is great (right across the street from the beach). These bungalows are primitive, but breezy and the common area is a great place to drink and talk all night and they provide all you can eat dinners for around six dollars. They will pick you up from your Honolulu hostel if you have a reservation with them and the driver will tell you a little bit about the island during the drive.
The Beach House is located right smack on Pupukea Beach Marine Sanctuary or as the locals call it "Three Tables Beach". Three Tables has some of the best diving and snorkeling on the Island (May - Sept.) The house is a two story building with eight private studios, 4 on each floor. Each studio sleeps four and has a private bath. The studios all have cable TV and either a balcony or a patio that overlooks the ocean.
The large studios (2) have full kitchens.
The standard studios have kitchenettes.
All studios come fully equipped. All you need is a beach towel and suntan lotion.

Comments: This place was dirty dirty dirty. I got covered in bug and spider bites. The kitchens are poorly equipt with one plate and two bowls between a cabin of 6 of us. the 'free' shuttle only picks up and drops off if there is more than one person, which left me stranded for my flight off the island. Although i've met people who liked it there and didn't have the same issues that i did, i still wouldn't suggest visiting this place.

Comments: This hostle was the biggest dive I have ever been to. Not to mention that everything was absoloutley filthy but there were literaly springs sticking out of my matress. This place was a rip off, I would have done better sleeping in my rental car. Do not stay here.

Comments: Our bathroom walls were black with mold, a dead rat had been lying in the dinette area so long that it was reduced to a skeleton...right next to the rat poison and the room was a sea of ****roaches. They had the nerve to post a sign which read,"We do not have a maid service so be sure to leave food and a tip." Are you #$^@&*! kidding me?! When we decide to not stay another night, they refused to refund our $125.00. Beware, this place is a total filthy scam!

Comments: The North Shore is fantastic but this hostel is ridiculous dirty and Expensive!
They try to push you the 90$ room.
everything smells mold, there are robberies offen, the matress are as old as the last vulcan eruption.
Add 10 bucks more and you stay at the fancy turtle bay hotel.
Never again!

Comments: I liked backpackers/plantation village, it was nice to hit up the country setting after staying in Waikiki for the first part of my stay. Waikiki was nice but busy The best part of my stay there was the waikiki beachside hostel.. they had a pub crawl and gave out free drinks, The guy who led the whole thing: Jason, was super cool. The northshore has no bars i could find but it was a nice change, we just had a bon fire on the beach so all i can say is go to backpackers and beachside, enjoy both sides of the island.

Comments: If you don't mind years of accumulated dirt then Backpackers (Brown House and dorm rooms under main building) are for you. It's an excellent location if you don't mind filth but noisy. Beware they make you pay before you get to your room/s and will NOT give you back a refund. Staff is nice until you state that your room/s are unacceptable. Backpackers advertises clean rooms - not blinds, walls, doors with dust/dirt/grime embedded & couches that smell of mould and feel moist.

Comments: I always stay at the backpackers hostel, the staff is super friendly and always helpful, and it is in a great location within walking distance to Waimea, Pipeline and a grocery store. There is a beautiful beach literally across the street, you can hear the waves crashing while you sleep. Beware of the crazy roosters at 5am though...
