Haleiwa Hostels - Backpackers Plantation Village
Backpackers Hostel

Backpackers hostel on the North Shore offers very laid back accommodations for the budget traveler. This is a great place. Plantation Village is 9 plantation style cabins just down the street from the Main House (200 meters) located across from the other end of Pupukea Beach Marine Sanctuary (Three Tables Beach). The cabins are nestled among hibiscus, borganvilla, bananas and Papaya on over an acre of lush tropical landscape. There are BBQ areas and picnic tables and laundry facilities. All cabins have fully equipped kitchens and baths and cable TV

It's location is great (right across the street from the beach). These bungalows are primitive, but breezy and the common area is a great place to drink and talk all night and they provide all you can eat dinners for around six dollars. They will pick you up from your Honolulu hostel if you have a reservation with them and the driver will tell you a little bit about the island during the drive.

The Beach House is located right smack on Pupukea Beach Marine Sanctuary or as the locals call it "Three Tables Beach". Three Tables has some of the best diving and snorkeling on the Island (May - Sept.) The house is a two story building with eight private studios, 4 on each floor. Each studio sleeps four and has a private bath. The studios all have cable TV and either a balcony or a patio that overlooks the ocean. The large studios (2) have full kitchens. The standard studios have kitchenettes. All studios come fully equipped. All you need is a beach towel and suntan lotion.

Comments: Stay away from the beach house too. Holes in ceiling with something living up in there. Filthy, bugs, and so much more. And no refund.

Comments: I have never left a review, but this place was terribly disgusting. A no refund policy prevented us from leaving. I was in shock to see how dirty and run down it was. It was smelly, ants infested the bathroom, the bed was like a box spring with sheets, a bright porch light for your safety shines in your face while you sleep, no a/c and you are warned about open/unlocked doors due to crime, and the full kitchen in laughable as advertised. Just read that many people have gotten bed bugs! Total nightmare!

Comments: Hi, Jenny and I stayed 3 nights in the Brown House(2nd floor). I expected to see a usual hostel with some minor issues with dirt and other stuff. But it was definitely the best hostel that we could find in Hawaii. I would even say the best that I have even been to. The house is amid palm trees andother vegetation. The kitchen, living room, and bathroom were very clean. We really liked the style, atmosphere, and our balcony. Very friendly staff. Ask for Craig to book a surfing lesson. Just amazing!!!

Comments: Got bed bugs here. Apparently happens quite often here. You have to wash all your stuff and take appropriate measures with your luggage. This place is a dump and smells bad!

Comments: Really bad hostel, dirty, bugs everywhere (not just the normal ones you expect to see in a hot country), the building we were in looked like it was going to fall over, I didnt sleep well as the door was not well hung so i stressed about people coming in the room, as there was no info on cancellation policy etc we got charged for a night we couldn't make even though we emailed with plenty of warning saying we couldn't make it. All in all the location was great butt was dirty and the staff were not friendly.

Comments: Had four unforgetable weeks in Plantation Village, will recommend it for everyone looking for a laid back base for exploration of the north shore. great vibe, great staff! If you plan to go: for your own sake, pay a visit to one of the Ron Artis family band koncerts in haleiwa - they're the best.

Comments: There is certainly no way this should be the most popular hostel on the island - it is as poor as it gets. The only thing it has going anymore is it's location, which is great, but others have great ones, too. This place was bug infested, dark, moldy, dusty, a hole in the wall but has the potential if someone, anyone, spent any time on it, a little love could go a long way here. We were disgusted, got a refund and went down the road to a beautiful, clean, lovely spot across from sunset beach that was cheaper. They must get away with running this slum because they have a website whereas others don't so no one knows to go. DON'T GO HERE, the end.

Comments: This place was dirty dirty dirty. I got covered in bug and spider bites. The kitchens are poorly equipt with one plate and two bowls between a cabin of 6 of us. the 'free' shuttle only picks up and drops off if there is more than one person, which left me stranded for my flight off the island. Although i've met people who liked it there and didn't have the same issues that i did, i still wouldn't suggest visiting this place.

Comments: This hostle was the biggest dive I have ever been to. Not to mention that everything was absoloutley filthy but there were literaly springs sticking out of my matress. This place was a rip off, I would have done better sleeping in my rental car. Do not stay here.

Comments: Our bathroom walls were black with mold, a dead rat had been lying in the dinette area so long that it was reduced to a skeleton...right next to the rat poison and the room was a sea of ****roaches. They had the nerve to post a sign which read,"We do not have a maid service so be sure to leave food and a tip." Are you #$^@&*! kidding me?! When we decide to not stay another night, they refused to refund our $125.00. Beware, this place is a total filthy scam!

Comments: The North Shore is fantastic but this hostel is ridiculous dirty and Expensive! They try to push you the 90$ room. everything smells mold, there are robberies offen, the matress are as old as the last vulcan eruption. Add 10 bucks more and you stay at the fancy turtle bay hotel. Never again!

Comments: I liked backpackers/plantation village, it was nice to hit up the country setting after staying in Waikiki for the first part of my stay. Waikiki was nice but busy The best part of my stay there was the waikiki beachside hostel.. they had a pub crawl and gave out free drinks, The guy who led the whole thing: Jason, was super cool. The northshore has no bars i could find but it was a nice change, we just had a bon fire on the beach so all i can say is go to backpackers and beachside, enjoy both sides of the island.

Comments: If you don't mind years of accumulated dirt then Backpackers (Brown House and dorm rooms under main building) are for you. It's an excellent location if you don't mind filth but noisy. Beware they make you pay before you get to your room/s and will NOT give you back a refund. Staff is nice until you state that your room/s are unacceptable. Backpackers advertises clean rooms - not blinds, walls, doors with dust/dirt/grime embedded & couches that smell of mould and feel moist.

Comments: I always stay at the backpackers hostel, the staff is super friendly and always helpful, and it is in a great location within walking distance to Waimea, Pipeline and a grocery store. There is a beautiful beach literally across the street, you can hear the waves crashing while you sleep. Beware of the crazy roosters at 5am though...
