Comments: The tours were absolutely fabulous, the hostel was an old place; but, I was willing to stay for the tours. Food stolen from the kitchen. It is not a nice part of Maui.

Comments: I've stayed in youth hostels many times during my life. This place is the worst one I've had the pleasure to experience. Not because of the occasional bug, randy fellow patrons giving each other the goods in public, or general lack of cleanliness standards you'd expect in budget minded accommodations. I expect marginal conditions in a youth hostel. Its life. Its part of the experience. Embrace and deal with it. No, this place is full of thieves. I wasn't there more than an hour and my room was broken into and stuff stolen. Who the hell steals a man's disposable razor for god's sake. That's just a low down dirty sort of shame and desperation I don't want to associate with. The thieves were looking for more I'm sure and stole my home keys hoping to find my rental car keys. But, I had those on me. Oh well, they stole nothing of importance that $25 and visit to an ABC store wouldn't fix. I went my way the next day and found other accommodations. The staff did refund me 2 out of a 3 days prepaid stay. But, only after I threatened to file a police report. Upon questioning the locals at Kite Beach later during my vacation I was told three different stories about theft at the Bungalow that had happened in the previous few weeks. The locals just laughed and said I got off lucky. They had many more unfortunate stories to relay if I wanted to take the time to listen - I didn't. Overall, I'd give the place a rating of zero for not addressing the thievery problem. If you remove the theft issue than the place is your basic hard rocking youth hostel with a few extra bugs thrown in.

Comments: Don't go there! The place is dirty. There are ants in every corner. The bathrooms are full of mold. We also saw a big roach near a bathroom. This place is also very noisy. We didn't sleep very much at this place. They say they have a quiet time at 10pm, but no one seems to care about that, not even the staff.

Comments: this place is amazing i cant say enough good things about it. It was spotlessly clean a wonderfull place to socialize and meet friends from all over the world, i came here by myself and i left with friends from austria new zealand and canada. the tours are amazing and 100% free , you tip them whatever you can and it is worth it compared to the real cost of getting there, free pool, internet, satelite, and a rockin hottub. after a long day a nice cold beer with some hotties all over the world is the cherry on top. I also found plenty of time to read a book quietly in the hammocks i will come back here for a long time to come and i highly recomend it to anyone.

Comments: I didn't like it at first as VERY cramped and lacking decent air con. But I got over that and found the hostel total good fun, the people that work there are really friendly and helpful, and the free tours are unmissable. I wish I'd stayed longer. My only other complaint is the rough area of town its located in. The bathrooms are also cramped but clean.

Comments: This place is so much fun. It is totally geared for the budget traveler. The real draw here are the free daily tours to the best spots on the island, if you come here you have to do the Saturday hike in the Haleakala crater, its breath taking.

Comments: I stayed at the Banana Bungalow for 20 nights in private room. I rented a car the first week and went on tours which are offered free and optional tip to tour guide. I took three tours, 1 to IAO Valley, Hanna (various beaches, banboo forest, 400' waterfall). Great Bus service to most parts of Maui for $1. Tours worth more than cost of room. 12 hour, 12 mile tour of Volcano. Staff and Guides terrific. Will be back.

Comments: The free tours are great.Stayed 4 nights before Easter..No problem giving $10 tip,to be driven around on tour for 7hrs.No need to rent a car. Most tours stopped at supermarket to stock up on food.Really good local places for breakfast/lunch. Gas station for beer.Great back yard for hanging out, with a hot tub till 10pm. Friendly staff.Worth a visit.

Comments: I stayed at the banana for about 3 nights in a private room and it was fabulous. The room was clean, they have a tropical garden and a really cool hot tob in the back yard. The best thing about the place are the free tours of Maui they provide everyday. I had the chance to see and enjoy parts of maui that I would not have otherwise known about, had it not been for those tours. One warning: be on time when if you stop anywhere or you will get left! I did, twice! :). The staff is super super friendly and the place seems to attract a young and friendly group of kids. The only negative is the area; really boring ( I would recommend a car). Overall, I had an amazing stay at banana.

Comments: DON'T GO THERE!!! Its not what it seems. I would go there, if they were more honest about the place... If you surf maybe its worth it. But stay on Oahu if you don't have any cash...

Comments: I never saw one bug there, and the place was actually really clean compared to most places. As far as the free tours, I never got "cornered" but they do ask for a tip. which is not a problem since the driver works for a free bed and spends 8-10 hours of his day making sure you enjoy yours. I dont see anything wrong with giving him a few bucks since it would cost alot more to rent a car, and if you dont want to tip, you dont have to. They also stop at safeway on the way home everynight so you can get food

Comments: Very buggy, dirty and the so called free tours, they corner you for at least $10 and for that price you could rent a car. No local activities, even a store to buy food. I won't go back.

Comments: This hostel has free daily tours that take you everywhere on the island that you would want to go without having to rent a car. The tours make this the best hostel on the island to stay at!
