Lihue is Kauai's center for government and commerce. Not quite the major city that Honolulu is, nonetheless Lihue is the center of the island's public transit system and is bustling with activity. Lihue Airport is the point of arrival for almost all visitors to the island.
Lihue is also rich with Hawaiian culture. There is a large meuseum, and several various galleries and exhibits of Hawaiian art history and culture. Along the coastline you will find many gorgeous white sand beaches which are perfect for swimming and sunbathing. Just outside of Lihue lies the Huleia National Wildlife Refuge, this dense tropical jungle offers some amazing hiking areas.
